大曲市花館付近の上空から眺めた仙北平野。豊かな田園風景を一望に収める

　県内屈指の米どころである、仙北平野。かつては原野として長年のあいだ放置されていたが、江戸時代より灌漑工事、土地改良などが試みられて、良質の米の産地となった。平野をながれる雄物川は、鉄道開通まではながらく物資を運ぶ大動脈であり、流域には川湊が発達して大いに賑わった。現在は、親水空間として、また流域のシンボルとして人々に親しまれている。

　The Senboku Plain is known as one of the best granaries of Akita Prefecture. This area was long neglected as a wild land. In the Edo period, irrigation and land improvement work started. Farmland was gradually enlarged and the region became a major source of quality rice. The Omono-gawa River, which runs through the Plain, was a main transportation route, and several ports along the river prospered until railroad service was started. Even now the river is a symbol of the area and many local people visit the riverside as a way to communicate with nature.
