Shoho-en inn is about 3 km north from this hot-spring cluster. The Oyamada family, who held the important post in the Satake clan (Present Akita Prefecture) in the Edo period and was also a large landowner, drew off a hot spring into the family residence and opened an inn for the community to use this hot spring. Visitors who come to the hotel for the first time may be surprised at the appearance of the palatial residence which is grand and full of history.
However, the true worth is not recognized only in the appearance. We can see the splendid materials and techniques in all parts of the interior. The host, Akira Oyamada, said that this building was completed in 1917 after the Kowakubi Earthquake and is a quakeproof structure, having learned from earthquake.
